Conversation Recap

Artificial Abundance: AI and Thrivability

Outline of Conversational Topics covered by collaborators of the March 14, 2023 event:

  • Concerns around data privacy and the representativeness of the data being used.
  • The need for balance in ensuring that the optimism around AI solutions is shared by all stakeholders and communities impacted by them.
  • The potential for AI to further marginalize and underserve certain communities.
  • The potential for AI to flatten social structures and allow more people to participate.
  • The need to consider specific applications of AI.

Topic: Ethical considerations in developing and deploying new technologies

  • Concerns about the potential for misuse and abuse of technology and how it is represented to communities.
  • The risks associated with technology being used for harm rather than good, and the need to mitigate those risks.
  • The ethical considerations associated with developing artificial general. intelligence and the potential threat it poses to all human life on the planet.
  • The need for deeper analysis of these issues.
  • The importance of considering the ethical implications of technology to minimize harm and promote positive outcomes.

Topic: Absurd Scenarios: The Evolution of Life and Technology

What if we realize that bacteria and amoeba are actually what chose to create fungi, and then plants, and then animals as its effort to colonize the planet. We are the living dream of bacteria. AI is just an additional extension. Does that lead to the Silicon world takeover of the carbon based world?

Questions that came out of the session:

  • As AI finds its way into creative realms, how does it challenge our understanding of creativity and artistry as innately human faculties?
  • With AI playing a role in decision-making processes, how does it impact our ethical judgments, and what should be the human moral compass to steer AI development and deployment?
  • Can AI enhance or augment human consciousness and self-awareness, and what ethical implications may arise from such an undertaking?
  • How might the development of artificial intuition impact our understanding of what it means to be intelligent and conscious?
  • What are the ethical implications of using artificial intuition in decision-making processes, and how can we ensure that it is used in a way that aligns with human values and ethics?
  • Can artificial intuition be used to enhance or augment human intuition, and what would be the implications of such an endeavor?
